The 50 Huskers to Know returns for the 2011 spring season! We count down the players you absolutely have to watch heading into spring football, culminating with No. 1 during NU's spring break.

The spring list, remember, is about players who are currently in the program, with an emphasis on redshirt freshmen and sophomores who might not have played much yet; in the fall, you'll see a list with more projected starters and incoming contributing recruits.

Not included on this list is wide receiver Khiry Cooper, who spends the spring with the Husker baseball team.

No. 29 Defensive tackle Chase Rome

This 6-foot-3, 280-pound redshirt freshman spent the fall working with the No. 1 and No. 2 units of the defense. Only excellent depth at the defensive tackle position prevented him from cracking the depth chart in 2010. Rome is, by all accounts, one of the strongest players on the team and a bear against the run. A converted high school defensive end, Rome also possesses a quick first step off the ball that should help him with pass rushing.

Although Jared Crick and Baker Steinkuhler are solidly entrenched as starters on the interior defensive line, Rome will challenge Terrence Moore and Thad Randle for spot in the regular rotation.
