A Seward, Nebraska native, Johnson attended his first Husker game in 1997 against Texas Tech, after which Nebraska ascended to the number one ranking, for which Derek takes personal credit. Many night, he goes to bed dreaming that he’s fourteen and the Huskers are again national champions.
As an aspiring writer/photographer, Derek seeks to bring thoughtful perspective and balanced discussion to the issues surrounding Husker athletics.
He works for his family’s farm seed company.
While he’s out on the road making sure that seeds turn into plants, he takes photographs of barns, sheds, windmills, and other scenery fading away sunset after sunset.
His photographs and greeting cards of rural Nebraska and other states hang at Noyes Art Gallery in Lincoln, where he is a coop artist.
