With the commitment of defensive end A.J. Natter, Nebraska began rebuilding an area of severe concern.
Of the 10 defensive ends on the Cornhuskers’ current roster, three are seniors including likely 2012 leaders Cameron Meredith and Eric Martin.
Three others will become upperclassmen follow this season assuming they remain with the team.
Natter tallied 76 tackles and eight sacks in nine games during his junior year, currently checking in at 6’5.5” 270 pounds. He’s also likely familiar with some nuances of Bo Pelini’s defensive schemes.
The Milton, Wisconsin native has spent some time on the field standing up in a similar role to that of Cameron Meredith’s “Spinner” role.
Yanking Natter out of Wisconsin is a feather in the cap of the Huskers’ recruiting staff. Ross Els, charged with Nebraska’s recruiting coordination, spoke recently about increased energy among those talking to the Big Red’s targets.
If Natter’s commitment is any indication, a snowball effect may be coming. Be sure to check out the Big Board later this week for some names to keep in mind.
