Welcome to Husker Heartbeat – a sampling of links and quick wit to start your morning! Keep checking each morning, Monday-Friday, for new links! We look for the offbeat as well as the straightforward – so don’t just think of us as a typical link farm!

A quick abbreviation key FYI: OWH=Omaha World-Herald, LJS=Lincoln Journal-Star, CN=Corn Nation, BRN=Big Red Network, HI=Huskers Illustrated, BRR=Big Red Report. If we need to add more – we will. Others, like ESPN, are self-explanatory.

*He has a big decision to make sometime over the summer, but for now Nebraska quarterback recruit Bubba Starling – and his family – appears to be learning toward enrolling at NU instead of playing Major League Baseball right out of the gate.

ESPN and The Chicago Tribune rolled into town on Monday and came away with a variety of stories on NU's transition to the Big Ten Here they are:

ESPN – Taylor Martinez 2.0
ESPN – NU's adjustment to the Big Ten
CT – A Q&A with Tom Osborne
CT – Advantages to moving to the Big Ten
CT – Keeping the offense under wraps

*Jamal Turner works a little at wide receiver while Curenski Gilleylen tries his hand at running back for a day. We expect the Turner move to stick throughout spring practice; he's an athlete you have to get on the field somewhere. Gilleylen, on the other hand, may transition back to wide receiver eventually.

*A number of players want replace Pierre Allen at the Nebraska defensive end spot.

*After Brandon Kinnie, Nebraska's receivers are relatively unproven – but reputedly talented. They'll get their shot this spring.
