Huskers Tack on a Tackle, But Will He Stick?

After whiffing on what seemed like a sure thing in wrapping up offensive tackle Andrus Peat (brother of current Husker Todd Peat, Jr.) during the last recruiting cycle, Nebraska has finally secured a player for the position of extreme need. For the moment, anyway.

Zach Hannon, a 6’5″ 298-pound stud out of Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, Missouri gave his verbal commitment via text/twitter today at approximately 4 PM Central time.

The addition of Hannon to Nebraska’s class no doubt had something to do with the presence of Rockhurst alum Michael Rose on the Husker roster. Rose has proven to be a dedicated recruiter for Nebraska since joining the squad and that’s a good thing, because while verbally committed, Hannon doesn’t appear to be in the boat just yet.

While he claims that he may take all of his official visits, only he knows where he’d go for all five.

If he did decide to use all of his trips, Nebraska, Arkansas and Missouri are likely all but booked. He’s shown some love to Kansas State and has taken unofficial visits to Kansas, Northwestern and Oklahoma. He also attended the Jayhawks’ junior day.

Rose may end up being Nebraska’s secret weapon in the end. Having a fellow Rockhurst Hawklet on the team can’t hurt the Huskers’ chances of signing Hannon, but if he does end up taking visits, it’s hard to think he’s a sure thing until his letter of intent comes across the fax line come February.
