Nebraska Into A New Age
232 views
"I have a lot of respect for the type of athletics and the type of football played in the Big 10. It will be an honor to be part of the conference, part of that tradition, and really take Nebraska into a new age. It's a big jump."

Stay On The Path
195 views
"As long as you believe in what you're doing and you stay on the path that you believe in, then you're going to be fine. The problem you have is when you start letting outside pressures and outside influences change you. We're going to stay focused no matter what.” -- Nebraska Football Head Coach Bo Pelini.Permanent Link to this Blog Post

We've Been Straight Up
192 views
“We have acted independently, we have been transparent, we’ve let people in the Big 12 Conference know what we were thinking, we have not hidden any agenda, we dealt with only one conference and we’ve been straight up with them. We’ve not tried to influence or coerce anyone to go with us or anything else.”

Save the Date: 2010 Teammates Tailgate October 29
114 views
It begins on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the Embassy Suites in LaVista. Tom and Nancy Osborne will host Warren Buffet for his wit and wisdom.
Tom and Nancy Osborne founded the TeamMates Mentoring Program in 1991 in an effort to provide support and encouragement to school aged youth. The goal of the program is to see youth graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. To reach this goal, youth meet one hour per week with a caring adult who serves as a mentor. Mentors are volunteers from the community who have dedicated themselves to making a difference in the life of a young person. Mentors give youth a sense of hope, purpose and vision.
The TeamMates Mentoring Program currently provides a mentor for over 3,000 youth across Nebraska and Iowa. The goal of TeamMates is to serve 10,000 youth and be nationally recognized as the leading school-based mentoring program by 2015.

Play with Passion
92 views
“Good football players. Guys that play with passion, play with an attitude. I think that’s what makes the University of Nebraska unique over any place I’ve been coaching-how much it means to the state. It’s like one big family, and that’s what I want it to be.”

Best Man Win
236 views
“We have three guys who we feel are capable and good football players. Competition will hopefully bring out the best in everybody. I’m looking forward to the race. Let the best man win. It possibly could be a combination of guys. I don’t know how it’s going to play out, We’re going to do what we feel is necessary to win football games.”

"All the expectations or people talking about where Nebraska is in the program, all that will take care of itself in time if we take care of business on the field. Everything is going to be decided between the white lines. We have to prepare ourselves accordingly."

Quote of the Day 4/7 Nebraska Culture

“I'm a strong believer in culture. My vision I have for this football team – that process is well under way. I cannot proclaim it has completely taken over yet. It is a process. And it's not something that happens overnight. I understood that coming in.”

Quote of the Day 4/1 Winning
101 views
“Success, as far as I'm concerned, cannot be measured in terms of wins. It's more than winning. To make an effort to win in a manner that reflects well on the university. That has a positive effect on young people."
--Tom Osborne, "More Than Winning."
Winning or striving to win is never more important than the athlete's well-being, regardless of the mixed messages our society sends. Ask yourself if you will be about able to keep those long-term goals in sight not only during practice but in the heat of a contest, not only when I am winning but when I am losing, not only when I have the support of my administration, but when they are pressuring me to win?
Winning is athletes who strive for excellence, who dare to risk error in order to learn, and who grow with both praise and constructive criticism. When winning is thought of in these terms, the pursuit of victory can be fun.
The Interscholastic Coaches Association says that “With proper leadership, sport programs produce young people who accept responsibilities, who accept others, and most of all who accept themselves. Successful coaches help athletes develop physically, psychologically, and socially. And successful coaches strive to achieve their personal goals and allow their athletes to win by achieving their goals.”
Winning is important, but success can also be seen in terms of athletes exceeding their own goals. Successful coaching helps athletes understand and implement this principle. They become excellent athletes - and successful adults by coaching to exceed their own goals.Permanent Link to this Blog Post

Quote of the Day 3/31 Warren Buffett
104 views
"Celebrity is only important in how you use it—whether you use it to help people or not. Tom did that. He could have endorsed a football shoe or something and made more money, but he chose to do something with his celebrity that would make a difference in the lives of people.”

Quote of the Day 3/30 -- Willia Cather and Nebraska
66 views
‘Elsewhere the sky is the roof of the world; but here the earth was the floor of the sky." --Willa Cather.
From the 1927 book she wrote, called And Death Comes for the Archbishop. This quote was forwarded to Husker Locker by Tom Crisp, and former Nebraska resident and the author of the Book of Bill: Choice Words, Memorable Men. Tom Crisp lives in New York City.
Cather grew up in Red Cloud and spent her childhood in the town which she later made famous by her writing career. Willa Cather attended college at the University of Nebraska.
While in college, Cather became a regular contributor to the Nebraska State Journal. Later she moved to Pittsburgh, where she taught high school English and worked for Home Monthly. She moved to New York City and began her writing career with McClure's Magazine. McClure's Magazine serialized her first novel, Alexander's Bridge, a work heavily influenced by her admiration for the style of Henry James.
Cather’s style moved to a heavy focus on Red Cloud and the Nebraska prairie. She won acclaim for her fiction and many awards for representing what it means to be a Cornhusker.Permanent Link to this Blog Post

Husker Team Building 3/8
67 views
"Please don't get the idea that I was some kind of religious nut. I was simply trying to apply principles of faith in a highly competitive arena... [My] approach to leadership and team building is related to my faith. I believe that each and every person should be treated with the dignity and respect that they deserve." -- Tom Osborne, University of Nebraska Athletic Director in Beyond The Final Score, There's More to Life Than the Game.Permanent Link to this Blog Post
