50 HUSKERS TO KNOW: No. 24
3,733 views
The 50 Huskers to Know returns for the 2011 spring season! We count down the players you absolutely have to watch heading into spring football, culminating with No. 1 during NU's spring break.
The spring list, remember, is about players who are currently in the program, with an emphasis on redshirt freshmen and sophomores who might not have played much yet; in the fall, you'll see a list with more projected starters and incoming contributing recruits.
Not included on this list is wide receiver Khiry Cooper, who spends the spring with the Husker baseball team.
No. 24 Right guard Brent Qvale
The North Dakota giant – 6-foot-7, 320 pounds - played spot duty behind senior Ricky Henry last year. He apparently didn't play well enough to make much of a dent in the rotation when Henry got a little banged up, however. Qvale – lauded from the moment he stepped on campus and starting performing in drills – possesses good athleticism, but his guard technique was lacking last year, as he often got off the ball slow-to-the-punch. As a guard, the last thing you can do is get caught in traffic, so Qvale will have to work on that in 2011.
He won't have anything given to him, but he should receive a great shot at winning the guard job.
