50 HUSKERS TO KNOW: No. 37
The spring list, remember, is about players who are currently in the program, with an emphasis on redshirt freshmen and sophomores who might not have played much yet; in the fall, you'll see a list with more projected starters and incoming contributing recruits.
Not included on this list is wide receiver Khiry Cooper, who spends the spring with the Husker baseball team.
No. 37 Defensive end Jason Ankrah
We thought he'd make the leap midway through the 2010 season. We were wrong. Although Ankrah – who sure looks the part at 6-4, 250 – occasionally played on pass-rushing downs, he mostly rode the bench behind Cameron Meredith. With a starting defensive end job up for grabs, this Maryland native will get his crack at it, but he needs to play the run more consistently and improve his overall technique. Ankrah has the speed, strength and frame to be a top-shelf end in the Big Ten. But he'll have to seize the opportunity.
