Release The Hounds! (To The Big Ten?)
According to multiple sources close to the negotiations - whoever they might be - NU and Mizzou have been invited to the Big Ten, as has Notre Dame and Rutgers.
"While nothing can be approved until the Big Ten presidents and chancellors meet the first week of June in Chicago, the league has informed the two Big 12 schools, Notre Dame and Rutgers that it would like to have them join. It is not yet clear whether the Big Ten will expand to 14 or 16 teams but sources indicated Missouri and Nebraska are invited in either scenario."
WHB is stationed in Kansas City. So one can only presume the sources are Missouri administrators. The rest of the story seems to confirm that.
UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman told the Lincoln Journal-Star there wasn't any truth to the report.
"None whatsoever," he said to the LJS. NU then released a statement on the matter, which you can read here.
Well, either way we'll see. We've been slow to hop on this train, as you know. The KC/St. Louis media is quite good, but most of the stories about Big Ten expansion have been driven by them and by proxy Missouri. And we all know where Mizzou stands as it pertains to the Big Ten.
What's your take on Big Ten expansion? Talk about it here!

It would be an interesting situation. I think the Huskers would like being a part of the Big Ten. I feel that way because I am tired of the Huskers having to play second fiddle to the cry babies from Texas. Just think it would be a great move.

The reason they don't want Pitt is because with Pederson as AD they don't want to see the blood letting that the Huskers would lay on the kitties each time they played them after what he did to our program!!! :-)

I dont see that NU has a choice unless they want a conferance where Texas seems to get every thing they want.. There will be no Big 12 Championship game if NU and MO leave correct? The Big 12 would need to add several new teams.. Wouldnt that leave the conference in frenzy.

ESPN is saying that Nebraska and Missouri are on their expansion list, but neither programs have been officially contacted to join the BIG 10. ESPN also said that both Missouri and Nebraska will join the BIG 10 if asked.

i am one husker fan in favor of moving to the big 10. however, i can't figure out why the big 10 would want rutgers instead of pittsburgh. pitt would offer a quality opponent in a major city and playing in a professional stadium.

Love it! If we don't join the Big 10 at this point I am going to be really bummed.

If Texas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma can solidfy an agreement that all will stay, no matter who offers what to each school, then the Big 12 survives with a Pac-10 alliance and a heftier TV contract. If those three cannot find a way for such an agreement, then NU bolts to the Big 10. It is going to be an interesting Summer. It is also interesting that the a Pac-10 alliance may be the one thing to solidfy such an agreement bewtween the Big 12's Top 3. Mizzou is gone no matter what....they despise the Top 3.

The way things are going, I don't think we have a choice. The success of the Big Ten Network on cable/satellite will drive it. If the Big Ten captures Rutgers, Syracuse, Conn., ND, or a combo of those, so long Big East. That's the scenario that will drive ND to the Big Ten. I like us in the West conference configuration. Strictly my girly opinion, of course!

SCland
What a whirlwind the last couple of days, first it was PAC 10(which I would love since I live in CA), now its the Big 10? I think ND or Rutgers makes more sense for the Big 10.
