30/1980 BEST GAMES: No. 23
Like or dislike our pick? Comment on it below. One key to remember throughout the “best game” portion of this series: Not every selection in this list is a win. In fact, more than a handful are losses. In gauging the “best” games we were not only looking for quality of play, but significant and memorable aspect. Hence, there are not a bunch of 58-3 wins over the Little Six on this list. Instead, it’s 30 games that mattered over the last 30 years - and some of those games NU didn’t win, although it played well.

Sept. 6, 1986 - Nebraska 34 Florida State 17
The first-ever night game at Memorial Stadium was also a tense moment for the NU football program, as several players had been investigated for selling complimentary tickets.
Nebraska answered with a dominating performance, despite trailing 17-10 early in the third quarter. FSU had scored both of its touchdowns off of big plays, while NU ground 427 total yards, including 269 from Steve Taylor alone. The Huskers sacked FSU quarterback Chip Ferguson 7 times for 44 yards, most of them coming in the second half.
It was one of only two times NU beat Florida State in the 1980s.
