A Collision Course with the Hawkeyes?

NU, now No. 4 in the latest NWCA national ranking, drew the same seed for the duals, which begin Saturday in the UNI Dome. The Huskers (6-0) drew No. 20 Northwestern for the first round. The Wildcats (7-1)lost to UC Davis 23-15 earlier this year, and boast the nation's top wrestler at 184 pounds in senior Jake Herbert.
Herbert aside, Nebraska should hold a decided advantage over NW in every match at 157 pounds and above.
The probable quarterfinal match will be dicier: No. 5 Missouri (11-0). Like Nebraska, the Tigers are strong in the upper weights, and will provide stiff challenges at 157, 165, 174 and 197 and should be heavy favorites at heavyweight, where senior Mark Ellis is No. 2 in the nation.
Awaiting in the semifinals would be the Hawkeyes, wrestling in front of a hugely partisan crowd in the UNI Dome.
It's a typical Iowa team, strong all over, especially in the lower weights, where the Hawkeyes have the nation's No. 1 wrestlers at 141 and 149. That said, based on rankings alone, Nebraska is one of few teams that can hang with them because of NU's upper-weight dominance.
We'll have much more on these duals in the next few days. For now, all of the seeds:
No. 1 Iowa
No. 2. Iowa State
No. 3 Cornell
No. 4 Nebraska
No. 5 Missouri
No. 6 Ohio State
No. 7 Wisconsin
No. 8 Minnesota
