Nebraska's wrestling team handed Virginia Tech its first loss of the season - and notched its first tie since 2007 - in two Sunday duals at Central Michigan.
The Huskers (12-2-1) handled the Hokies 26-11 and tied the Chippewas 17-17. VT then upset No. 6 CMU 19-12.
In the first dual, NU got a key win from sophomore Matt Vacanti at 133 pounds and swept the last six weight classes, with three wrestlers winning major decisions and 197-pounder Craig Brester scoring a technical fall. It was the first loss of the year for Tech, which is now likely to be ranked after upsetting Central Michigan.
Against the Chippewas, Nebraska won five matches, getting major-decision bonus points from Brester and 157-pounder Jordan Burroughs. But NU's tenth-ranked 184-pounder, Vince Jones, was upset 8-6 by CMU's Vince DiDona. Coupled with the Chippewas' four victories in the lower weights, the match ended in a dual when heavyweight Tucker Lane won a 5-4 decision.
