I'd like to know just how many of you Husker Locker fans out there grew up listening to Lyell Bremser on the radio? What is your favorite memory of him?

Any game he announced ! He painted a picture in your mind of not only the game , but of the day , the atmosphere , and the crowd .

I started listening in the fifties when you were lucky to see one college game on the weekend . So Lyell WAS The Nebraska Cornhuskers .

There was and still is no equal to "The voice of the Nebraska Cornhuskers " , as he was noted as .

Sorry , I am still too old school to call them the Huskers .

He always had nicknames for nearly every player . Johnny the Jet Rodgers , Choo Choo Chairlie Wilson , Dave the Dealer Humm , are just a few that come to mind ! .

I really miss the days that the radio was nearly as good as watching the game on tv . Thank goodness we don't have to listen to ramblin Rose anymore ! LOL !

Expect the best if only you give your best !

So very very true what you said about Lyell "painting a picture" in your mind. I started listening in the 60's and every game was something to look forward to. That husky voice of his...you could almost feel him slobbering all over the desk when something exciting happened in a game. "WOW. HOLY MOLY. MAN WOMAN AND CHILD!"

No particular game he announced can be picked as the best...every game he announced was "an event" to be looked forward to. He could make a game against a "nobody" sound like it was the most important game of the year.

On another note: Whatever happened to Jack Payne? Anyone know? I loved his sportscasts on WOW Channel 6 in Omaha back then and his calm, pleasing voice during the Husker broadcasts.

One request (to the Nebraska brass): PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give us Kent Pavelka as play-by-play for Husker football. PLEASE.

Another comment: Matt Davison adds a lot to the broadcasts. His down-to-earth style, friendly voice and football knowledge are appreciated.

Imagine this: Husker Football Broadcasts with Kent Pavelka, Adrian Fiala and Matt Davison. Awesome.

RIP Lyell. You were the absolute VERY VERY BEST!

I grew up with Lyle. His voice, broadcast style and obvious love of Husker football will stay with me forever. I don't think we will ever have some who brings his style and enthusiasm to the broadcast booth.

Hey.get this. My dad didn`t care for him much. That was back in the day that there were 3 different broadcast. Bremser, Dick Perry [kfor] and I think Patrick. Dad always listened to Dick Perry[for some reason]. So inturn I missed out on some of Lyell`s broadcast, Once I got a little older I would listen and make up my own mind and so I heard alot more of Bremserisms [that a word]? Any one else remember the other guy`s broadcast?

We turned down the TV and listened to Lyell. I don't think many do it anymore. The new guy is average and Rose was a disaster.
